The Art of Dance Musical Theatre and Academy is a dance and theater school. We are known for our professionalism and dance excellence, our toddler classes, and our famous summer princess camp!

We do two major performances a year: The Nutcracker, and our Spring Recital, which this year is a musical medley of Grease, Hairspray, and High School Musical: "Let's Go To The Hop!" We offer morning classes for toddlers and preschoolers, afternoon and evening (and weekend!) classes for all ages up through adult.

Monique Vermont is the Founder, Director, Choreographer and Artistic Manager for The Art of Dance. Monique has been involved professionally in the theatrical arts for over 37 years. She began her career at age nine in the Warner Bros. Musical, "The Music Man," (opposite Ron Howard) and has been on the stage with such stars as Marcelle Marceaux and Robin Williams.

Her extensive training includes the renowned George Balanchine's New York City Ballet and the American Conservatory Theatre's Stanislovsky Method of Drama in San Francisco. Her degrees include a Bachelor of Arts in Theater and Communication / Emphasis Education, Associates of Arts in Dance Education with Honors in Humanities and Early Childhood Development. Of her many qualifications, Ms. Monique's most recent teaching certificate comes from Marcia Dale Weary's Central Pennsylvania's Youth Ballet.

Ms. Monique's credits on stage and screen are may, and her more than 37 years experience teaching professionally has brought to fruition the most important purpose that she shares daily with her students: Dance is more than physical; it is mental and spiritual. Ms. Monique feels honored to share her knowledge and expertise with the next generation, from the introduction of dance to guiding our youth all the way up to a professional career, if so chosen. Her students have been accepted locally at Governor's School, Todd Rossenlieb's Junior Dance Compan, and offered scholarships at such local colleges as Old Dominion University. The Art of Dance Theatre and Academy has been established in Norfolk, VA since the year 2000 and it is Ms. Monique's dream to continue to mentor this area's children, their children, and grandchildren.

Testimonials:

We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for enriching Sarah's life and appreciate your warm and caring attention to her.

(proud Dad)

Kaitlyn has learned so much from you in the one year, and it really shows. Our family all commented about how impressed they were with the recital.  I can definitely tell Kaitlyn has learned good form with her dance even though she is only five you can really tell.

-- Julie Jesionowski
(All three of her daughters have danced with us, the youngest of which began at age one!)

Again, thank you for everything you have taught Emily over this past semester.  You have really inspired her to embrace her dancing, and she has absolutely fallen in love with the movement of the dance.  She is moved to dance to most any music, regardless of where the inspiration strikes her.  I very much appreciate the positive learning experience you have provided for her.”

-- Emily's Mommy

We want to thank you for all your hard work and for your patience.  Jessica is certainly enjoying herself.  And thank you for making her feel so special.  She is always so excited to come to dance. Thank you and God Bless.

-- Lisa Gates and family
